I very much agree with Josh Howard's letter to the editor of Dec. 19 in regard to the school and city taxes.
I am in my 80s and living on a limited income and am also a homeowner of over 50 years. I have to budget in order to pay for all necessities that also have become inflated. The school and city need to budget the monies given them and become serious about reducing their spending. More and more of taxpayer monies are asked for with no thought of looking back on all the items they think they need, with little thought of controling their spending. These taxes are becoming intolerable.
I know I am not alone in these very real concerns as I have spoken to friends and neighbors who feel the same.
Also in regard to Mr. Howard's letter, I also ask why the BUUSD feel as though they can now burden the taxpayer to continue funding the school programs that were government-funded during COVID? This ESSR funding was a onetime gift. If you constantly are asking for more and more, you need to definitely be more responsible and find ways to get the spending down.
School boards should give us an affordable, reasonable budget that will not have to be presented again to voters two and three times.
