AIAVT awards
Coinciding with its 75th anniversary, The American Institute of Architects, Vermont Chapter (AIAVT) announced the winners of its 75-year Awards. Eleven buildings were selected; all are architectural works constructed in Vermont since 1948.

Volunteers honored
KILLINGTON — Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports volunteers Glen Torres, Andy Holt, Jay Schulz and Ben Hamilton were named 2023 Volunteers of the Year.
Torres, of Waterbury, has been a Vermont Adaptive volunteer for the past 30 years. This past winter season at Sugarbush Resort, he taught 44 individual lessons, totaling up to 29.5 total days of instruction. He also volunteers at Vermont Adaptive’s annual events, such as the VT50, VT 100, Charity Challenge, and Allen Clark Hill Climb, as well as summer programming.
Schulz has been a year-round volunteer since 2021. In addition to his time volunteering at Bolton Valley and in Burlington in the summer, Schulz also plays an active role in Sunday ski team at Sugarbush both in helping with SOVT athlete transportation as well as instructing on snow.
Holt, of Burlington, has contributed for many years as an instructor to athletes and as a mentor to other volunteers. He participates in skiing, biking, climbing, paddling, and also works with the Veterans Ventures program.
Hamilton, of North Chittenden, has been with Vermont Adaptive for two years helping with numerous lessons and special events. A skier by nature, Hamilton has helped on the occasional snowboard lesson. He also brings perspective from his EMT training and work, education in the field of medicine, love of the outdoors and local knowledge of Vermont.

Winter ban
Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets reminds all farm operations that the annual winter manure spreading ban began Dec. 15. VAAFM is aware that many Vermonters experienced unprecedented rainfall this summer, and these conditions reduced manure spreading opportunities and stressed manure storage capacity for farms. The winter manure spreading ban is still in place, but farmers can seek exemptions for emergency situations occurring because of the historic wet weather Vermont experienced in 2023, by contacting either their regional farm coordinator or call 802-595-1990 or 802-224-6850.
Ag grants
The Working Lands Enterprise Initiative is now accepting applications for the ARPA Primary Producer Impact Grant and the Supply Chain Impact Grant. Vermont-based farm, food and forest sector businesses may apply for grants for $50,000 to $250,000. These two different grants are available targeting specific segments of Vermont’s agricultural supply chain. The application portal is now through Jan. 19, 2024. Agritourism support
University of Vermont Extension is sponsoring a free agritourism webinar from 1 to 2 p.m. Jan. 23, 2024, covering the key steps for business planning. MENTOR Vermont announces the recipients of the 2023-2024 Vermont Mentoring Grants. This year, 20 grants were awarded, totaling $632,200, which will support more than 1,750 youth in communities statewide, as follows:
