Netanyahu and other right-wing Israeli politicians saw a short-term benefit to allowing outside money to flow to Hamas in Gaza. The benefit was buying peace.
Now, the long run held two propositions. The first, peace continues because Hamas just wants to get fat and lazy like everyone else. The second, Hamas attacks after you ignore intelligence concerning an attack. And perhaps, if Hamas attacks, then you have a delayed response. The delayed response provides Hamas time to wreck havoc which provides sufficient justification for an all-out invasion of Gaza.
The purpose of the all-out invasion of Gaza is land. Of course, the announced rationale is the all-out elimination of Hamas which justifies a continued all-out invasion of Gaza destroying much infrastructure and forcing residents to flee. Perhaps, if the Israelis' luck holds, then many Palestinians flee to Egypt — the land grab all the easier with less Palestinians on the land.
The further evidence is recent Israeli ambassadors stating there will be no Palestinian state as well as the State Department announcing there should be no land changes due to the Hamas-Israeli War.
Netanyahu is about Israel. Netanyahu is about the state. Netanyahu is a fascist. Wars often help fascists with corruption problems.
