The future is bright for one of the Granite City’s most promising grapplers after a wildly successful start to the 2023-24 season. The Crimson Tide sent their top athletes to the Granite State to compete in the Salem Blue Devil Classic, which draws some of the most competitive teams in New England. Laperle refused to take a back seat to any upperclassmen, rattling off four straight victories to capture his first individual tourney championship. He pinned his first opponent in 3:04 and then only needed 1:15 to take care of his next challenger. Laperle faced off against Bow’s Chase Flagg in the semifinals and didn’t let the bout reach the second round by serving up a pin in 1:15. A title showdown with Windham’s Liam Shambo ended with a 6-1 victory for Laperle, who will return to action with the Tide this weekend at the St. Johnsbury Early Bird Invitational.
