The Solons' rising star relied on an impressive combination of fitness, technique and balance while placing first out of 108 racers during the first varsity event of the season at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center. He crossed the line with a 5-kilometer time of 10 minutes, 57.1 seconds to defeat runner-up Leo Circosta by 23 seconds in the freestyle race. Grossi's efforts helped the MHS boys place second out of 10 teams, while the Montpelier girls finished first out of seven schools. Grossi kicked off the season earlier in the month at the same venue by placing 24th out of 188 competitors with an 8k freestyle time of 18:00.8 at the Silver Fox Trot. He also placed 48th out of 214 finishers by crossing the line in 13:22.7 during a 5K freestyle pursuit during the Eastern Cup Opener at Mt Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid, N.Y. He was 84th out of 209 racers in 35:37.7 during the 10k classic portion of the Easter Cup Opener.
