I believe there are more good people than people who wish to do harm to others. I also believe there is a large number of people who will stand by and be silent when harm is done to their brothers and sisters. Some say that, to stay silent when witnessing an injustice to another is being complicit and can be seen as approving of what is taking place. I think some of the inaction is based on fear, the fear of getting involved, the fear of drawing attention to oneself or contradicting a societal norm tolerated by many such as racism, sexism or homophobia.
There are now so many attacks against minorities, I look with distain at the politicians who use racism or transphobia to further their careers. We need to stand up to these people, to challenge them. We also can’t stay silent when witnessing or hearing any form of prejudice. I truly believe there are more of us, those who want a more fair and a more just world and society. That more fair, more just society can only happen when we stand together and say "no," this is not right, this has to stop.
