The Raiders star jumped out to an early lead and never looked back while leading the Raiders to their second consecutive Division II championship and fueling a boys and girls sweep for the East Montpelier school. She broke the tape with a 5-kilometer time of 20 minutes, 33.3 seconds to record one of the biggest margins of victory in the past few decades. Long wound up finishing over a minute ahead of Middlebury’s Mary Harrington (21:57) and Burr & Burton’s Madelyn Harris (22:12.9), who rounded out the podium. The Raiders turned a highly anticipated clash with perennial title contender Harwood into a 31-point blowout victory over the Highlanders. Long was also faster than every Division I runner other than athletes from CVU, which posted a perfect score. U-32 will return to action at the Vermont Meet of Champions and the New England Championships.
