Free health care

BARRE — Central Vermont’s only free health care clinic, People’s Health & Wellness Clinic (PHWC), announced it saw a 20% increase in patients served in 2023. For nearly 30 years, PHWC has provided free primary care and dental hygiene services to the uninsured and underinsured residents of central Vermont using volunteer doctors, nurses and a small staff of trained medical professionals.

In response to patients increase, PHWC is now seeking $100,000 in donations from individuals, businesses and organizations over the next 30 days. Visit phwcvt.org for more information,  or call 802-479-1229.

Vermont Historical Society will host a series of virtual, history-related events in three categories between January and March 2024 that cater to fans and historians of the Green Mountain State’s history.

Dairy workshop

St. ALBANS CITY — UVM Extension and Northeast Dairy Business Innovation Center are hosting a free workshop, The Cost of Production, for dairy farmers from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 24, 2024, at People’s Trust Co., 1 Franklin Park West, St. Albans City. The workshop will be led by Joanna Lidback, principal financial consultant with Adirondack Management Services and CFO at Adirondack Farms LLC, a large Holstein operation, both in Peru, New York. Hemp survey

USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service will send the Hemp Production and Disposition Inquiry to over 1,000 Northeastern Region producers Jan. 22. This follows its 2022 Hemp Acreage and Production survey. Like the 2022 questionnaire, this year’s survey will collect information on the total planted and harvested area, yield, production, and value of hemp in the U.S. in 2023.

Survey recipients are asked to respond securely online at agcounts.usda.gov, by mail, or fax. Those who do not respond by Feb. 1 may be contacted to arrange an interview to complete the survey.
