Judy E. Barney

Judy E. Barney WILLIAMSTOWN — Judy E. Barney died Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin. She was born March 16, 1946 to Clesson and Ina Lamb of Warren. There she grew up on the family farm where she loved her animals, became great at gardening and cherished being with family and friends. In early 1967, Judy and a young man serving in Vietnam, began their relationship as pen pals. Gary had graduated with her at Montpelier High School but their love story began with those letters. They were married on December 23, 1967 at Our Lady of the Snows in Warren. Judy worked at Merry Maids, in Randolph, where she sharpened her love of sewing for others. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting hats and delivered several to the Veterans Administration for Vets and their families. Later, she would get more involved with the Veterans through her work with the Ladies Auxiliary of Purple Heart Association. Her drive to take care of others sent her to Brattleboro School of Practical Nurses where she became an LPN. She spent part of her work life at what was then the Randolph Tranquility Nursing Home. The remainder of her career was spent at Central Vermont Hospital, where her passion for taking care of others found her in the medical/surgical unit; obstetrics, pediatrics and the Dementia Special Care Unit, Judy unfortunately had to retire too soon when she became ill. She continued to be a caregiver to the very end, making sure everyone around her was going to be okay. Survivors include her husband, Gary Barney of Williamstown; her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Thane Martin of Calais; and her best-friend and sister Mae Deyette of East Randolph. She is survived by her nieces Ann Ryan of Middlesex; Carol Jerome of Bristol and nephew James Deyette of East Randolph. There are many cousins, in-laws and special friends left behind as well. She will be missed by many. Graveside memorial services will be held in the Spring at the Warren Village Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Contributions in her memory may be made to Central Vermont Humane Society, where a special angel, Angie, found her. Or, to CVHHH, who have provided exceptional care throughout the years. The family especially thanks those at CVMC whose caring and compassion meant the world to her.
