Mark G. Durkee Sr CHELSEA — Mark G. Durkee, Sr. of Chelsea, VT, passed away on December 25, 2023, at Woodridge Rehab and Nursing Home, with his wife by his side. He was born on August 15, 1936, in Hanover, NH and grew up in Sharon, VT. Mark was one of five children born to Earl and Dorothy Pearl (Judd) Durkee. Mark lived in Sharon until he enlisted in the Army in February of 1957 and did his basic training in Colorado and had special training in North Carolina. Mark was then stationed in Germany until his discharge in 1960. After Mark’s discharge from the Army, he went back to his home in Sharon, where he helped his father at their sawmill business. Mark then met his wife, Virginia Moulton and they married in 1961, and they celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this last November 12. Mark and Virginia went on to make their home in Chelsea, VT with their four Children. Mark worked several jobs, which included working at Lacillades and driving dump trucks. Then Mark started a slaughtering business and met many people that he saw every year. Mark was known for his sense of humor, loved jokes, and visiting with friends new and old. He loved haying and his cows and especially his dog, Jacob. Mark was well read, loved history, especially history concerning World War II. He was active in his church in his adult life and had a great faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Mark is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia (Ginny) Moulton Durkee; a son, Mark Jr. (Gayle), and their son, Luke; a daughter Carolyn (Steve Mesh) and their children, Hannah (Dustin Fleming), John and Eve; a son, Matthew (Judy) with their children, Amanda, Lindsey Ingham (Thomas Ingham), Scott, Joshua, Dorothy Rose, Allyson and Benjamin Gurdin; a daughter Margaret (Bruce Kenyon) and their daughter Brittany (Glenn Farrar); great-grandchildren, Sabrina, Zackery, and Amelia Ingham and Sylas Fleming; sisters, Sylvia Walker of Worchester, VT and Dorothy Moody of Indiana; a brother-in-law, Peter Rogers and many beloved nieces and nephews that he loved very much. Mark was predeceased by his parents; his two sisters: Emma Rickert and Ivy Tabor; his in-laws and brothers-in-laws, Bennie Moulton, and John Walker. A funeral service will be held on January 6, 2024 at 1:00 pm, at the Websterville Baptist Church, 143 Church Hill Rd, Websterville, Vermont 05678, (802) – 479 – 0141. Mark’s wife, Virginia, and family wishes to thank Woodridge Rehab and Nursing home for their excellent care of Mark. They went above and beyond for him and his family.
