Stephen J. Lightholder Jr BARRE — Stephen J. Lightholder, Jr., 82, of Beacon Street passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at his home. Born on October 5, 1941, in North Adams, Massachusetts, he was the son of Stephen J. and Helen M. (Spencer) Lightholder, Sr. He attended Drury High School in North Adams, Massachusetts and graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1964. He first married Judith Hamilton in Newport, Vermont in 1967 and she passed away in 1970. He then married Sandra Gariboldi in Barre in 1974. He was employed as a Real Estate Appraiser for the Vermont Agency of Transportation. His memberships included the Hedding United Methodist Church and the Green Mountain Club. In his spare time, Stephen was an avid hiker- having completed both the Long Trail and the Appalachian Trail. He also volunteered at the Aldrich Public Library and for GMTA. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Lightholder of Barre; his daughter Jennifer Corbett also of Barre, and his son James Lightholder of Barre; his grandchildren Steven Corbett and Joseph Corbett, both of Barre and his brothers Alan Lightholder and his wife, Regina of LaGrange, GA and John Lightholder and his wife, Judith of Morrisville, NC. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Judith Lightholder. The service to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the Hooker Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. Family and friends may call from 12:00 p.m. (noon) until the time of the service.
