Lyneette M. Knapp CHELSEA — Lynette Marie Knapp 60, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home in the early hours of Wednesday, December 13, 2023. First diagnosed at only 48 years old, she fought her cancer like the warrior she always was for twelve years. Born on June 14, 1963, Lynette was raised on Merchant Street in Barre, by Andre' Grandbois (Barre) and Sandra Lyford (Berlin) and also by her father-in-law, Luke Knapp (Barre). Some of her favorite past times as a child were riding on the Milk Truck with her dad, family BBQ's, swimming with her siblings and cousins in the summer and caroling during Christmas. As she got older she obtained her GED while working for International Coins & Currency. Lynette married Kirk Knapp in 1980 and had three children that "were her whole world" as she would often say, adding her grandchildren to that list as they came along. She spent her days caring for them, loving them unconditionally, carting them to Boulder Beach every day of the summer and overfeeding them every chance she got. Food was a way to show love to her family for Lynette, and family was Lynette's whole world. She was a mother to anyone who walked through her door or into her heart. At the age of 35 she decided to study for and obtain her CDL so that she could drive a school bus. Although never utilized because she "couldn't live with herself if anything happened to the little ones she would be driving around on these bad back roads", it was a certification she kept on her license until she died and was very proud of her accomplishment. Her and her mother worked doing construction clean up in new houses together for many years. She worked for several years at the Bond Auto Warehouse in South Barre. Lastly, Lynette worked for Trow Hill Grocery until she was diagnosed with cancer in 2011. Her calling card was a smiley face on your sandwich wrapper to add that little extra love to your day. If Lynette didn't pick on you, she didn't love you. Tough as nails from the time she was born, she wouldn't take any grief from anyone and would be the first to tell you that. She would also be the first to offer you a plate of food and a seat at her table in her very, very clean home. "Take your shoes off please!" Her two-story custom post and beam apartment was her pride and joy. "Everything I ever really needed" she would say was right there with her family, farm and Country Living Magazine worthy little home. Lynette loved to babysit her grandchildren, cook, take care of her chickens and pigs, go fishing with the guys (especially deep sea), and enjoy beach trips with the girls. She would shovel Church walkways to help out her dad during big snowstorms, and neighbor’s yards who found it a little more difficult than she did. "If you don't use it you will lose it!", she always said about moving your body. The last few years you could always find her cleaning or cooking something at home when she wasn't taking care of her best little buddy and grandson or being the rooster to her hens. She was an avid member of the Grandbois Cornhole club and loved to razz her familial opponents. She could also be seen in Hartford, spending time with her granddaughters, shopping, playing or going on an adventure with them. She was so grateful to meet her fourth grandchild in May and be able to help out with her until October. Survivors include her parents Sandy and Frank Lyford of Berlin, Andy and Sharon Grandbois of Barre; her three children Brook and Kiley Knapp of Hartford and their children Harper and Willow; Dustin and Nikole Knapp of Chelsea and their children Levi and Linley; and Kelly and Kyle Booth of Calais; her siblings Bob & Deb Grandbois of Montpelier, Dan & Jodie Grandbois of Websterville, Mike Grandbois of Barre and Katie Lyford of Berlin. She is also survived and missed by her in laws of the Knapp Klan and by many, many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Lynette is predeceased by her father-in-law, Luke Knapp and her ex-husband Kirk Knapp. Lynette, Lil' Nut, Mom, Mummy, Momma, Nani, Memae - whatever name you knew her by, remember her with a smile. And in Lynette's words - Keep your turtle shell on, if you're bored then go find something to do and for God's sake go clean your floors! Her Children would like to thank Central Vermont Medical Center, Mom's Hospice team through VNH, all of the contributors to her GoFundMe throughout the years, the people who have supported us throughout this year and Brittany G. Without all of you we wouldn't have been able to bring Mum home for her last months and can't thank you enough for helping to honor her wishes and her life during Mom's death journey.
