Jane L. Cookson HAMILTION, MT — Jane Louise (Blodgett) Cookson passed away January 5, 2024 at her home with family members by her side. She was born August 17, 1935 in Barre, Vermont. She was the daughter of Kimball and Mary (Lamphere) Blodgett. She attended area schools and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1953. Jane married her first husband, David Jeffrey, on December 18, 1954. She married her second husband, Charles (Cookie) Cookson, on August 25, 1972. After 63 years in New England (mostly VT), Jane moved to Montana’s Bitterroot Valley with Cookie in 1998. Jane was a passionate horsewoman. She was involved with horses all her life – especially Morgans! She raised, bred, trained, and owned many horses, and was active in several equine-based associations over her lifetime. She worked various jobs in the New England area off and on over the years. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Charles Cookson, brother Millard Stranahan, stepdaughter Sherry Cookson Scanzillo, daughter Mary Jeffrey Robinson, and an infant daughter. Survivors include: brother Edward (Evelyn) Leonard of Morriston, FL, sons Robert Jeffrey (Carol Fox) of Helena, MT, Allen Jeffrey (Pam) of Wilmington, OH, Stephen Jeffrey (Tracy) of Stockett, MT, son-in-law Earl Robinson of Shady Valley, TN, stepson John Cookson (Anita) of Bath, NH, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Honoring Jane’s wishes, a simple graveside service will be held at a later date at the Poplar Hill Cemetery in Calais, VT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Vermont Morgan Horse Association, 555 Spoonerville Rd, Chester, VT 05143 or Bitterroot Health Hospice, 1200 Westwood Drive, Hamilton, MT 59840.
